INTERNATIONAL TRADEMARK PROTECTION

A US registration ends at the border. Your business might not.

PROTECTION BEYOND THE US

A US registration protects your mark in the United States only. As your business expands — selling abroad, manufacturing overseas, or licensing internationally — your trademark protection should expand with it.

The Madrid System

We file international applications through the Madrid Protocol, administered by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), which allows a US application or registration to serve as the basis for protection in more than 100 member countries through a single filing. One application, one language, one set of fees — with protection extended country by country as each national office examines the request.

Beyond Madrid

Where the Madrid system is not the right fit — because a key market is not a member, or a direct national filing offers strategic advantages — we work through an established network of trusted foreign counsel to file directly.

After Filing

International portfolios require ongoing attention. We manage the follow-on work: responding to refusals issued by national trademark offices, tracking foreign renewal deadlines, and coordinating local counsel where issues or disputes arise.
